Released in Australia in 1999, the Mercedes-Benz MB100/MB140 was an entry level van for Mercedes-Benz at the time, which sold along side the Mercedes-Benz Vito and Mercedes-Benz Sprinter LCV range.

Built in South Korea, it was also known in other parts of the world as the SsangYong Istana or Daewoo Istana.

Here in Australia it sold very well, as it was a cheaper alternative to the Volkswagen Transporter, Ford Transit, Mercedes-Benz Vito, etc and competed against other ‘Cab-Forward’ designed LCV ‘s, such as the Toyota Hiace, Mitsubishi Express, Ford Econovan, Mazda E Series and the Kia Pregio.

These types of vans, ‘Cab-Forward’ are now seen as dangerous and not as safe as vans with it’s occupants sitting behind the engine bay instead of on top of it, which is why and also along with Australia’s new emission laws that also came into effect around 2005, most of these types of vans disappeared from our market, except for the Toyota Hiace and Mitsubishi Express.
